Историјат
The story of the library in Derventa did not begin with shelves full of books, but with the desire of people to read, learn and share knowledge. Its roots go back to 1888, when a reading room was founded in Derventa – one of the oldest in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was this reading room that became the foundation of a library tradition that has lasted for more than a century.
The first library in Derventa was founded in 1945, continuing the mission of spreading the written word and culture. During its development, the library changed its organizational form, and since 1988 it has operated within the Library Cultural and Andragogy Center, together with the Local History Museum, the House of Culture and other institutions. Today's Public Institution National Library "Branko Radičević" continues this continuity as an independent cultural institution, preserving tradition and opening up space for new ideas.
The Library House is a building from the Austro-Hungarian period, one of the recognizable symbols of Derventa. As a protected cultural asset, it bears witness to the city's past, while its modernly designed space today combines library and museum activities, preserving memories and creating new ones.
Today, the Branko Radičević National Library is not just a place to borrow books. It is a meeting place for readers, writers, students, researchers and all lovers of culture. With a rich collection of publications, a local collection, numerous literary evenings, exhibitions, workshops and programs for children and adults, the library remains one of the most important guardians of Derventa's cultural identity and a place where the past inspires the future.

Our employees
A public library is not just made up of shelves filled with books, but also of people who breathe life into it with their work, knowledge, and dedication. Our employees welcome every reader with love, help them discover new literary worlds, and together with their users, build a place of meeting, learning, and culture.
